Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe, WA, Australia
Grasping (at Straws) is a site-specific installation made at Cottesloe Beach in WA, Australia. The work loosely takes its shape from locally relevant research and statistics about coastal erosion – statistical curves becoming stitched shapes in the sand. The work aims to raise awareness of the importance of native dune vegetation and local coastal rehabilitation projects made in the area. Plants like Spinifex longifolius use their roots to stabilize the dunes - like a weave stitching everything together.
In loving memory of Hannah.
