INSERTIO, 2018
Insertio is a large-scale installation and a "research setting" that was placed on the bottom of the sea near the island of Fårö. The work was constructed by imitating the artificial grass elements used in Åbo Akademi University Marine Biology research. The installation has taken its form from the design of urban environments (so-called grid plans). By using this form, we refer to the eelgrass meadows, as well as to human habitats- wanting to create a connection between the tow and show the essential role of eelgrass in the creation and maintenance of a healthy underwater ecosystem. Boström's team will utilize the eelgrass-city by exploring how many and what kind of species it is attracting to the area; to the grass itself and in the soil beneath. The elements used in the Insertio work were created with the help of local inhabitants of Korpo.
